    LCBC Defibrillator

    We recognise that having a defibrillator in the community increases the survival rate of those who have cardiac arrests. Although the risk of a cardiac arrest increases with age, they can happen to anyone, including children.

    As our LCBC Community Hub is set in a residential area, surrounded by bungalows, a nearby school church, parish centre, play area and football playing fields, and the nearest 24 hour defibrillator was at West Auckland, we felt it was imperative that we do what we can to install a life saving device in St. Helen Auckland.

    Thanks to users of our Eco Market, those who have attended events, and donors in our community, we met our minimum target. We funded the remaining amount to allow us to install our defibrillator on 8th July 2024.

    We contacted a local charity to supply this when we started our plans. Missed A Beat is based in Newton Aycliffe and works on behalf of the community to provide lifesaving equipment. These defibrillators, provided for the public and community groups, ensure access to this life saving equipment is easily available in times of an emergency. Mark took care of all arrangements needed to install and register the device on the National Defibrillator Network; The Circuit.

    Following on from this, Mark successfully pursued support from Tesco and the National Gas Network to fund bleed kits to be installed in local defibrillator cabinets, which included ours. The bleed control kit will also be added to the GoodSAM network, linking directly with emergency services when every second counts. Bleed kits are specialised first aid kits that are designed to control severe, life-threatening bleeding until professional medical help arrives.

    If you need to use our defibrillator (or any defibrillator)

    If someone is in cardiac arrest, call 999 and start CPR. If you’re on your own, do not interrupt CPR to go and find a defibrillator. If it’s possible, send someone else to find one. When you call 999, the operator can tell you if there’s a public access defibrillator nearby. They will give you the code needed to access your nearest one.

    In the event that our defibrillator or bleed kit is used, we need to replace the resources. The batteries from the defibrillator will also need to be replaced in future. Therefore, we are leaving our donation link open if anyone wishes to continue to give support.
