Equipment

  • Weighing scales
  • mixing bowl
  • teaspoon

Ingredients

Bees

  • 100 g smooth peanut butter* you can use any nut butter
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 wheat cereal biscuits crushed

To Decorate

  • 1/2 tsp cocoa
  • flaked/whole almonds you can also use flaked coconut
  • choc chips or use halved raisins

Instructions

  • Mix the peanut butter and honey together then stir in the crushed wheat biscuit cereal. It will make a firm ‘dough’.
  • Scoop out teaspoonfuls of the mixture and roll into oval shapes.
  • Dip a teaspoon into water then into the cocoa and press onto the shapes to create the ‘bee stripes’. Alternatively, you can use a toothpick.
  • Add either the coconut or almonds for the ‘wings’ and either raisins or choc chips for eyes.
  • Pop them in the fridge to set (they can be eaten straight away but may be sticky with being handled). They will last a few days in a sealed container in the fridge.

Notes

Optional flavourings:
Add either 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, ground ginger or mixed spice to the peanut butter/cereal mixture before shaping.

Allergy Alternatives:
For those who have a peanut allergy, you can use almond or cashew butter, provided the allergy does not include tree nuts.
Sunflower butter is another alternative, though this can be more difficult to obtain in the UK.
